I am using the Git Bash command prompt for Windows but you can use terminal for Mac or Linux. Otherwise, you can download and install if you want to.Type npm update -g npm to check if it was installed properly or up to date.
You can type npm –v if you want to check version you are using. I am using version 2.14.7.
